Family, friends, staff and customers came to the Callander Legion recently to celebrate the retirement of local veterinarian Dr. Ron Schweitzer after 30 years of service to Callander.

In July, Ron and his wife Wilma decided that it was time to make some changes in their lives and decided to sell the business that is located at the corner of Highway #94 and Callander Bay Drive.

Dr. Neil Lawrence is now the owner and Neil and his staff will continue to offer the same exceptional services that they are know for.

“It has been a great experience,” said Ron, “I have so many good memories but it was time for a change. We were ready to move on and focus more on the kids as they get through school and live life at a different pace.”

Ron is now the new veterinarian for the North Bay Humane Society and with wife Wilma will offer an affordable Spay and Neuter Clinic so that everyone can afford to get their pets fixed.

“We will look after the animals in house,” said Wilma, “we will make sure that all of the animals are fixed and healthy before they leave the shelter for adoption and offer a discount for those who need their animals fixed.”

The couple is proud to come on board as a new Chair, Board and staff are set in place. There will be more programs offered to help including with Mental Health issues. All of this will help rebrand the Humane Society as a more public friendly place.

Congratulations to both of you.
